Tanuki Shapeshifting is the general name given to a set of 16 abilities that tanuki can use. These abilities require the use of a special resource called Tanuki Balls.


Tanuki Balls

The special resource required to perform these shapeshifting techniques is known as Tanuki Balls, often shortened to TB. The amount of TB currently held by a tanuki counts as a statistic.

Any newly-generated tanuki, either player characters or NPCs, should start with 3 TB. There are three methods to obtain more TB.

  • The simplest and the safest method is to simply wait until Daily Reset; tanuki regenerate 1 TB on Daily Reset for free.
  • The "soft" generation method works during Resting. Tanuki have an extra option; they can select the number of day periods to use for resting, and choose to assign each day period to either sleeping normally (which heals Fatigue, as normal) or to meditation (which regenerates 1 TB per day period).
  • The "hard" generation method consists of instantly converting life energy (in the form of Nutrition, Hydration and Blood) in exchange for immediate TB. A tanuki can burn 500 ntri, 200 wtr and 1 Blood to generate 1 TB. This process is instantaneous, but cannot be done during combat.

Afterglow 2 Stress -8.0% The tanuki's body briefly flashes a greenish hue and begins emitting a powerful herbal scent, reminiscent of ginseng, rosemary, and orange.
Edging 3 For 30 turns, Bleeding is disabled, regardless of the amount of Wounds. The tanuki's body takes on the consistency of stone specifically at and around any open wounds, to stop them from bleeding temporarily.
Ironwood 3 Natural Armor Class is set to A1 for 30 turns The tanuki's skin hardens to the consistency of iron while remaining soft to the touch, gaining the properties of super-light soft armor.
Fists of Iron 4 Strength +40% for 20 turns The tanuki's fists harden, taking on the texture and consistency of iron.
Steelwood 5 Natural Armor Class is set to A2 for 30 turns The tanuki's skin hardens to the consistency of steel while remaining soft to the touch, gaining the properties of light metal armor.
S-Healing 5 Select a body part; that body part receives Light limb healing.
Healing skill bonuses and Nutrition/Fatigue apply at they normally would.

Sane as S-Healing, but the scent is more powerful, and may feel mildly distracting to others.
Divine Coming 9 Pain -100% Same as Gift of the Wood, but the effect is more pronounced and looks as though their entire body is pulsating, growing and shrinking in parts as though rearranging itself.
