12 gauge CAWS is a type of ammunition for firearms. It is classified as a (S)hotgun caliber, and was originally designed for the Heckler & Koch CAWS.
12 gauge CAWS is a unique shotgun shell type. Though of identical diameter compared to a regular 12 gauge shell, 12 gauge CAWS shells are made entirely out of brass, and are belted to prevent chambering them in regular 12 gauge firearms (and vice versa). They are essentially brass-cased, 3 inch (76mm) long shotgun shells, capable of using the same projectiles as regular 12 gauge, but with a much stronger powder load; essentially making these shells far more powerful.
This caliber may also be referred to as simply CAWS shell, which is sometimes shortened to CS.
Damage tables
Buckshot
The table below assumes Plated buckshot (P-Buck). Pain and Limb Damage listed are per projectile; multiply by the amount of projectiles that hit.
Damage type | Projectiles | LDV | Pain (C1) | Pain (C2) | Pain (A1) | Pain (A2) | Pain (A3) | Pain (A4) | Pain (A5) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bullet | 15 | +1 | 20% | 18% | 16% | 13% | 10% | 5% | 1% |
- Dragon's buckshot (D-Buck) uses 9 pellets per shell instead of 15 due to the incendiary charge. See Ammunition types for damage.
Slug
The table below assumes Full metal jacketed slug (F-Slug).
Damage type | LDV | Pain (C1) | Pain (C2) | Pain (A1) | Pain (A2) | Pain (A3) | Pain (A4) | Pain (A5) |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Bullet | +7 | 222% | 200% | 178% | 144% | 111% | 55% | 17% |

Flechette
Shooting this ammunition type applies a FT -1 effect.
Pain and Limb Damage listed are per projectile; multiply by the amount of projectiles that hit.

- Flechette ammunition is more efficient against armored ACs than against unarmored ACs. To reflect this, damage against armored ACs is bolded.
FRAG-12 (explosive slug)
FRAG-12 shells cause localized explosions. See Explosives for more details.

Retail information
12 gauge CAWS ammunition can be purchased in gun shops and weapon shops in boxes of 10 rounds or bulk cans of 200 rounds.
The following brands and projectile types are available in retail:
Brand name | Composition | Available projectile types |
---|---|---|
Standard | Reg/SP | Buck (10.00) F-Slug (10.00) Slug (9.00) Flech (15.00) |
The values listed in parentheses correspond to the value of a single shell of the corresponding brand and projectile type. They are included on this table as a convenience, in order to tell at a glance the cost of a given brand and projectile combination.
