A Phantom Forces Private (also called Phantom Private, PF Private, or simply private; abbreviated to Pvt.) is a member of the Maze Military's elite forces. All members of the Military may be generally referred to as soldiers as well.

Overview

A Phantom Forces Private is a member of the Maze Military. As the name of the occupation indicates, they are part of the Phantom Forces branch of the Military and hold the rank of Private.

The Phantom Forces are the elite branch of the Maze Military, composed of the recruits with the highest scores during basic training.

Within the Military hierarchy, Private is the lowest rank. It is automatically given to any new members after they passed Military basic training and were assigned to a company. Each company has a home base, and each home base is located in one of the towns under Military control. All privates are part of a squad, composed of 10 privates and led by one sergeant.

Duties of a Private are generally divided into one of two broad categories; base duties and deployment.

When assigned to base duties, a soldier must remain within the town of their home base. Although there is a variety of work to be done, being "assigned to base" is considered to be synonymous with R&R, as it means avoiding deployment against dangers and combat. Base duties include guard work (guarding the entrance of the base), lobby duty (paperwork at the base's lobby), kitchen duty (cooking and preparing meals for other soldiers on base), radio operator duty (being the radio relay between deployed units and their base), or armorer duty (keeping the company's inventory of weapons and ammunition stocked and in good condition).

When deployed, squads of soldiers are sent on various patrols and objectives in the world. The official job of the Military is to patrol the UA and destroy monsters around towns and on important trade routes, to try and make the UA safer for people to travel through. Most of the time, that is precisely what deployed soldiers do; hunt monsters down, find their nests, and destroy them.

On occasion, due to the Military leadership's views and stances on other armed groups, soldiers may also be fighting sapient creatures they are at war with, in particular, members of the Youkai Nation.

Private First Class

At the discretion of their Sergeant, a Private may receive an honorific promotion to the rank of Private First Class (abbreviated to Pfc. or PFC), as a reward for exceptional acts of courage, bravery, or otherwise impressive performance. This honorific promotion does not grant additional authority, but it is generally considered to be a mark of respect and proof of competence. This honorific rank is lost if they are promoted to sergeant.
