At first glance, procyons may seem superficially similar to tanuki; they are humanoid creatures with raccoon ears and tails. They even have superficially similar dimensions; an average height of 5 feet 8 inches and an average weight of about 180 pounds. However, there are two major physical differences. Firstly, the procyon's genetic link is with the raccoon (procyon lotor), not the Japanese raccoon dog. Secondly, the body of a procyon has significantly more fur than that of a tanuki, comfortably covering every square inch of skin, making them even more animalistic than their youkai counterparts. Tanuki may take offense to being compared to a procyon for these reasons. | At first glance, procyons may seem superficially similar to tanuki; they are humanoid creatures with raccoon ears and tails. - Inflicts no Pain or Limb Damage.
- The creature will attempt to steal a random equipped weapon, piece of LBE, piece of clothing or armor from the target's inventory.
- If there are no compatible items in the target's inventory, the technique fails automatically.
- Otherwise, both the attacking creature and the target creature must roll 2d6+Agi to determine whether the stealing attempt succeeds.
- If the attacker's roll is equal or superior to the target's, Steal is successful.
- On a success, the creature will steal one random item among the listed possibilities above, transferring it to its own inventory.

Procyons (Homo ferus ex procyonis) are one of the species of feral animal-people (scientific designation homo ferus), species that have evolved to grow humanoid traits and sufficient intelligence to use tools and weapons, but have remained largely 'feral'; they inhabit small, hidden communities in the UA, or are nomadic. They are not considered to be a sapient species, as most aren't able to speak a recognizable language, instead speaking in unrecognizable dialects, which seem to vary between species, sometimes between individual groups of tribes within the same species. Biologists believe that feral animal-people are "edge cases" of sapience; they may very well be self-aware, with the potential to one day develop the ability to speak a commonly-used language. Rare individuals are believed to have learned enough Common or Youkai-go to understand it and may even speak or write it.
Despite that, procyon bodies are actually more humanoid in structure, and have the distinction of being able to wear human clothing and armor - something no other feral animal-people species can do. While they sometimes put this particularity to their advantage, procyons generally do not bother with clothing, sticking with LBE, belts, decorative bands and straps, and their weapons.
Procyons are notable for being utterly shameless thieves, not hesitating to reach and take what is not theirs even if the owner is still wearing or carrying it. This almost maladive habit, on the border of kleptomania, is the primary source of trouble for most procyons, who often start fights solely for the purpose of taking an object they happen to fancy. While they'll readily use the weapons they get their hands on, it seems they are primarily driven by whatever they find interesting to wear or carry around.
In fact, procyons seem to live mostly hedonistic lifestyles, with a devil-may-care attitude towards most threats and a life dotted by pleasure-seeking, whether from stealing or from living in one of the elaborate, raider-like UA complexes they build and use as homes, deep in the UA. There, they seem to do little else than sleep, eat, make piles of the loot they stole, and have copious amounts of sex. Some loot piles are said to be so large, procyons themselves don't know what to do with them other than admire them, leading to stories and legends about great treasures held by the "raccoon men." Exactly how true these stories are is up for debate.
Similarly to other feral animal-people species, the exact origin of these creatures is not known; they only started appearing in the Mazes around early Era 7, and are suspected to have been the result of some type of past scientific experiment gone wrong, and that they have since escaped into the Uncivilized Area and become a native species.
