The Mauser C96 Broomhandle (also called C96 Broomhandle, Broomhandle or simply C96) is a 7.62x25mm Tokarev pistol.
Maze Customs
This weapon can receive the following minor customization services:
- C96 Carbine
- C96 LB
- 2-step combinations: C96 LB Carbine
C96 Carbine
With this modification, the Broomhandle is fitted with a fixed wooden stock, becoming a sort of short pistol-caliber carbine and allowing it to be fired more accurately.
Modifications:
- Category: Becomes Conventional rifle
- Stock type: Becomes Fixed (S)
- Weight: Becomes 5 units.
- Despite belonging to a weapon category that is restricted from dual-wielding, this weapon is exempted, and can be dual-wielded.
C96 LB
This modification replaces the original 5.5-inch barrel with a 9.5-inch model, letting you hit much harder. Comes complete with a wooden handguard.
Modifications:
- Barrel length: Becomes 9.5 inches.
- Weight: Becomes 5 units.
C96 LB Carbine
The C96 LB Carbine is what this gun could have looked like if it came out of the factory as a full-sized pistol-caliber carbine instead of a semi-automatic pistol.
This is a two-step modification from the original weapon, which combines the effects of the C96 Carbine and C96 LB conversions.
Modifications:
- Weapon Class: Becomes Class 2
- Category: Becomes Conventional rifle
- Barrel length: Becomes 9.5 inches.
- Stock type: Becomes Fixed (S)
- Weight: Becomes 9 units.
- Despite belonging to a weapon category that is restricted from dual-wielding, this weapon is exempted, and can be dual-wielded.
Other information
- Stripper clip compatibility: Mauser C96 10-round stripper clip
Trivia
In real life, the Mauser C96 Broomhandle is nominally chambered in 7.63x25mm Mauser. Though the two cartridges are very slightly different (very slight differences in case length and bullet diameter), these differences are so minimal that they fall within variations in manufacturing tolerances. In fact, modern-production ammunition uses virtually identical cases and projectiles (ranging in diameter from 0.308" to 0.312").
Although the dimensional similarities are well known, shooters are often advised not to use 7.62 Tokarev ammunition in 7.63 Mauser firearms, due to an alleged difference in power and chamber pressures. In reality, the maximum chamber pressures (pMax) are actually fairly similar. According to the CIP, the pMax for 7.62 Tokarev is 2500 bar (36259 psi), and the pMax for 7.63 Mauser is 2250 bar (32633 psi), which is exactly 10% less. It must be noted, however, that the advice not to use 7.62 Tokarev ammunition into real-life 7.63 Mauser firearms is not entirely unfounded, due to the prevalence of surplus high-pressure submachine gun-grade ammunition, which could damage or destroy the already old and worn-out 7.63 Mauser guns.
As with the Webley, the author assumes that a theoretical brand-new Mauser C96, made using modern steels and production methods such as those produced in the Mazes, could handle 7.62 Tokarev ammunition without too much trouble, forming the reasoning behind the in-game chambering. For maximum authenticity, you can pretend that -P versions of 7.62 Tokarev are 7.63 Mauser; they are the closest statistical equivalent.
