.30 Carbine is a type of ammunition for firearms. Though it was originally designed for the M1 Carbine, it is classified as a (P)istol caliber due to its dimensions (straight-walled cartridge with a round-nosed projectile and relatively low power).
.30 Carbine is pronounced thirty carbine. The pronunciation of the word carbine is subject to debate, between Kar-BYNE (rhymes with mine) and Kar-BEEN (rhymes with mean). Both are considered acceptable, the chosen pronunciation being largely a matter of personal preference.
This caliber may also be known as 7.62x33mm, or more informally .30 Carb.
