The armored grizzly is a grizzly bear that has been tamed, domesticated, and given body armor to increase its resistance to gunfire. While it is the same animal physically, no more lethal than its wild and unarmored counterparts, the armored grizzly presents a special threat that must be differentiated.

The most important difference between armored grizzlies and unarmored ones is, of course, the armor they wear. Armored grizzlies are outfitted with custom, patchwork armor made from old ballistic vests, duct-taped trauma plates, and other chunks of metal designed to serve as armor plating. Although every bear has effectively unique armor design, the overall intent is similar, with a particular focus on protecting the head and vitals using a makeshift helmet and "bands" of armor around the bear's sides and underside.

Another critical element differentiating armored grizzlies from their wild counterparts is their behavior. Although they are equally as dangerous and lethal in combat, armored grizzlies are well-known for being domesticated animals, often belonging to raider gangs, who use them as war animals. An armored grizzly is markedly docile toward the raiders that adopted it, especially the persons responsible for taming them (often referred to as the "beastmaster" or "beast-tamer" in raider circles). The best-trained individuals are capable of following orders and can even fetch and retrieve objects (or bodies!) for their masters.

If you find yourself in front of an armored grizzly, be extremely cautious, as you may be on the territory of a well-equipped raider gang. The best course of action for most travelers and adventurers is to avoid these creatures entirely. If you have no choice but to fight, high-powered rifles with armor-piercing ammunition or explosives offer you the best chance of survival.
