7.92x33mm Kurz is a type of ammunition for firearms. It is classified as a (R)ifle caliber, and was originally designed for the Sturmgewehr family of rifles, the most well-known of which is the Sturmgewehr 44.
7.92x33mm Kurz was the first purpose-designed 'intermediate' cartridge; so-called because it is more powerful than a pistol round (such as 9x19mm), but less than a "full-size" rifle round (such as 7.92mm Mauser).
7.92x33mm is typically pronounced seven ninety-two by thirty-three millimeters. It is also acceptable to pronounce 7.92 seven point nine two.
This caliber has been given a large amount of designations and synonyms; 7.92x33mm, 7.92mm Sturmgewehr, 7.92mm Kurz, 7.9mm Kurz, 8x33mm, 8mm Kurz, 8x33mm Polte, and curiously enough, 44 Bore; though not because of bore or bullet diameter, but rather because of the 44 in StG-44.
There are 2 base weapons chambered in this caliber.
