Other information
Creature traits:
- Delicacy meat: When butchered, this creature's meat is considered to be a delicacy, worth double the value of regular game meat.
- Dimorphic: The sex of each creature must be generated, as there are critical differences between males and females. Roll 1d2 for each creature (1: Male, 2: Female).
- ♂ Males (bulls) have 2 antlers, which are part of the creature's EXTREMITY limb group. The presence of these antlers gives them the ability to use the Antler strike attack.
- ♀ Females (cows) lack the antlers males possess, leaving them with no EXTREMITY limbs. The lack of antlers allows them to use the Headbutt attack.

While elk are part of the deer family, there are many differences between the elk and the white-tailed deer. The most obvious difference is their size; elk are much larger and bulkier than deer, with adults standing at about 4 feet 7 inches at the shoulder. The average weight of elks is about 700 pounds for males and 500 pounds for females.
Another difference, perhaps due to being closer in size class to cattle than whitetails, is the naming. Adult males are referred to as bulls, adult females are cows, and young elk are calves; the exact same terms as cattle.
The most relevant difference for most travelers and adventurers is their behavior, especially compared to key deer and whitetails. Whereas the smaller cervids are fearful creatures that would rather flee than fight, elk are territorial, aggressive, and not at all afraid to get into a scrap, even against much better-armed opponents. If you step into the territory of a group of elk, tread carefully and make sure you have a powerful firearm with expanding ammunition at your disposal.
Fortunately, the elk's aggressive tendencies take nothing away from the delicacy of the meat. They are worthy game for seasoned hunters, especially bulls, as they can be butchered for a fair quantity of meat and beautiful antlers.
