A Police Detective is a senior member of the Maze Police.
Within the Police hierarchy, detectives rank above Sergeants and under Police Chief, effectively making Detectives the seniormost members of the Police with field duties.
Detectives operate semi-independently, either alone or in pairs. Their duty is to investigate criminal organizations and cases related to their activity. Detectives are famous for not wearing a recognizable uniform, having instead adopted a relatively citizen-like plainclothes look, in order to better blend into crowds and gatherings and to be able to enter areas normally off-limits to Police, such as Syndicate-controlled towns. Should the need for additional support and firepower arise, Detectives are also able to request backup from police squads and tactical teams.
Because of their position within the hierarchy, their plainclothes dress code and their duties and responsibilities, Detectives are often described as "hardboiled": hardcore, fearless individuals that cannot be broken or disposed of easily.
