Steady aiming (also called Steady aim) is an ability and a combat technique.

Requirements

To be able to perform this combat technique, your character must be equipped with:

  • A firearm of any kind, with exceptions:
    • Cannot be performed with flamethrowers, hand grenades, planted explosives, or exotic ranged weapons.

Use

Steady aiming is about the careful and deliberate alignment of the sights on the target at the expense of speed and rate of fire.

A character performing this ability will spend the extra seconds necessary to ensure they will hit the target. When using this ability, the following effects are activated:

  • FT -1
  • Maximum shots per turn reduced to 1, unless the firearm is set to burst or full-auto:
    • If shooting in burst mode, maximum shots per turn is set to 1 burst.
    • If shooting in full-auto mode, the only trigger pull length available is Short pull.

Use with other abilities

This ability can be combined with:

  • Concentrating: If your firearm meets the requirements for both Steady aiming and Concentrating, you may combine both abilities to activate Concentrated Steady Aiming. The following effects become active:
    • FT -1
    • Maximum shots per turn reduced to 1
    • The concentrating character will be able to aim at a specific target as they normally would, but they will not open fire on the same turn the use of the ability was declared; instead, they are "locked" in a concentrating state, and they must shoot at the intended target on the next turn, at a special Initiative Speed of C, considered to be slower than U.
      • Successful hits (including inaccurate hits) while concentrating are converted into critical hits instead.
  • Hyper Burst: If your firearm can shoot in burst mode, it is possible to combine this ability with Steady aiming to fire a single burst with increased accuracy (FT-1) and one attack roll for all shots in the burst (dice results applies to all shots).
