Mamono (魔物) is a Youkai-go term which means "evil spirit". It is a category of creatures that have appeared in the Mazes alongside youkai, which possess a range of magical abilities and traits. Whereas youkai are sapient, civilized creatures that have integrated into society and communities, mamono are feral monsters residing in the Uncivilized Area, being one more category of dangerous creatures that can be found there.
Kuda-gitsune is a Youkai-go term that can be transliterated literally translates to "tube fox". This name comes from their ability to stuff themselves into vents, ducts, large pipes, and other tight passageways with relative ease. They physically resemble kitsune and appear fully sapient, including the ability to speak Common and Youkai-go, but with a few notable differences: they cannot grow more than one tail, and generally possess a shorter, thinner, almost tube-like build, with an average height of 5 feet 6 inches. Instead of elemental magic, shields, and self-healing spells, kuda-gitsune can shape-shift and disguise themselves as other creatures, typically sapient species such as humans, halflings, and youkai. The shape-shifting abilities extend to clothing and LBE, but cannot replicate weapons or items.
Their standard strategy is to camp out in the Uncivilized Area and imitate the appearance of another creature in the hopes of stealing money and other valuables. Their standard strategy is to appear as though they need help, by pretending to be starving, dehydrated, injured, or otherwise in need of help. If a potential victim gets close enough, they de-transform, attempt stealing the valuables, then make a rapid escape. They have no particular fighting talents and would rather flee if confronted. Aided partly by their generally slim constitution, kuda-gitsune are highly agile and are excellent runners.
