A small, flightless bird commonly used as a farm animal, raised for its meat and eggs.
Males may be called '''roosters''' while females are known as '''hens'''. Both are recognizable from other birds by their combs - a red, fleshy, crown-like appendages on their heads. Roosters have larger combs, longer tail feathers, and an overall more colorful plumage. Young chicken are referred to as '''chicks''' and are typically yellow in color, though other feather colorations also exist.
On average, adult chicken range from 23 to 28 inches tall, weighing anywhere between 4 to 7 pounds, with hens being raised for eggs being typically the largest and heaviest.
