Fanning is an ability and a combat technique.

Description
Fanning, in its original form requires the use of a single-action revolver. The shooter keeps the trigger depressed, and fires by repeatedly cocking the hammer with the palm of one's hand, causing the cylinder to rotate. Because the trigger is depressed, the hammer falls immediately after cocking, thus causing the gun to fire (provided the cylinder is not empty or filled with a spent case).

Skillful use of this technique allows a shooter to fire a single-action revolver much more rapidly than normal. Modern interpretations of this technique were later developed for use with DA/SA revolvers, so long as they possessed a traditional hammer.

Requirements
This ability is not initially available and must be unlocked. To unlock this ability, your character must reach Expert level in the SA revolver combat skill.

Once unlocked, to be able to perform this combat technique, your character must be equipped with the following:

* A firearm; specifically, a revolver capable of using single-action mode. This technique is compatible with all single-action only revolvers, but not with every DA/SA revolvers.
** DA/SA revolvers incompatible with Fanning: Mateba MTR-8

Use
If you meet the skill, weapon, and target requirements, you can perform the Failure Drill, which will result in the following:

* The character attempting a Failure Drill will only fire 3 shots, no more, no less. The first two shots are automatically aimed at the enemy creature's BODY or UPPER BODY, the third shot is automatically aimed at the enemy creature's HEAD.
* All three shots are fired at normal accuracy; the FT malus for aiming at a HEAD is ignored on the third shot, making it effectively as accurate as the previous two.
* Effects from Recoil still apply as they normally would; high Recoil levels may cause point of aim to drift.
* Any effects from fitted weapon accessories will still apply.
