Trauma plates (also called armor plates, ballistic plates, or simply plates), are large rectangular plates made out of at least one type of bullet-resistant material, and are designed to improve survivability against firearms. Although they are categorized as clothing, they cannot be worn directly and are better described as armor upgrades; particularly body armor.

In order for a character to be able to wear a trauma plate, they must be wearing a piece of clothing with the Plate carrier effect. The plate is then inserted into the plate carrier in order for it to provide additional protection.

Function

The purpose of a trauma plate is to protect the user from Bullet-type damage. They are useless against any other type of damage and will therefore not provide any additional protection if the user is hit by attacks dealing any other type of damage.

The way a trauma plate works is by providing a sort of additional "shield" to the torso (as every type of plate carrier is, or includes, some sort of body armor). When the user is struck by a Bullet-type attack to the torso, the plate will reduce Pain damage by a listed multiplier, and absorb the limb damage that would have been normally dealt, with the intent of reducing its own HP instead of the user's Torso HP.

Every trauma plate has the following traits:

  • Hit Points or HP, which is the amount of limb damage it is capable of enduring until breaking and failing. A broken trauma plate is completely ineffective, and may be removed from the inventory immediately.
  • A Pass-Through Threshold or PTT, which is the minimum amount of limb damage per hit that a single Bullet-type attack needs to deal in order to cause a pass-through (the bullet was sufficiently powerful to completely penetrate through the plate and into the wearer's body, therefore defeating it).
    • If the plate is penetrated, the bullet will deal an equal amount of damage to both the plate AND the wearer's torso, just as if there was no plate at all.
    • Another way to read the PTT value is that the plate will effectively absorb any amount of limb damage between 0 and the listed value minus 1. So for example, a PTT of 9+ means the plate will successfully stop bullets dealing between 0 and 8 damage.
  • A Pain modifier, which is a multiplier; any Pain damage dealt to the wearer is multiplied by the listed amount.
  • A Weight value, in units
  • A Shop value, in Parallar symbol.png.

A trauma plate does not increase Armor Class and therefore doesn't actually reduce the amount of limb damage dealt by incoming bullets. Therefore, one should pair the highest possible AC with the best available plate, in order to ensure that as little damage as possible is dealt to the user; both for preserving the plate's HP and reducing the chances of a pass-through.
