The kasha (Youkai-go: 火車, pronounced kah-shah, lit. "Fiery chariot") is a creature belonging to the Youkai category. Youkai are both sapient and sedentary, making them one of the civilized species of the Mazes.

Attacks and techniques

This creature has six attacks: Punch, Kick, Bite, Claws, Force bolt, and Savage Mode

Punch and kick

Identical to the basic unarmed combat punch and kick. Maximum attacks per turn is determined by the Martial arts combat skill level.

Bite

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (C1) Pain (C2) Pain (A1) Pain (A2) Pain (A3) Pain (A4) Pain (A5)
Sharp Melee 1 3 +0 20% 18% 16% 13% 10% 5% 1%
  • The amount of damage this attack deals is not affected by the creature's Strength.
  • On a successful hit causing an injury, this attack will inflict 1d2 light wounds instead of just 1.

Claws

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (C1) Pain (C2) Pain (A1) Pain (A2) Pain (A3) Pain (A4) Pain (A5)

Force bolt

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (All ACs)
Special Ranged 1 14 +1 32%
  • On a successful hit, if the target has at least one equipped weapon, one random equipped weapon is blown off the target's body, and flung into a random Side of the room. That weapon also sustains damage, losing Condition equal to 1000 x the amount of Limb Damage this attack dealt to the target.

Savage Mode

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (All ACs)
Special Special 1 0 N N/A
  • Inflicts no Pain or Limb Damage.

A kasha's equipment is determined by their occupation.

Other information

Skills: A kasha's skills are determined by their occupation.

Creature traits:

  • Natural hunter: A kasha's claws count as a butchering-capable weapon for hunting; they therefore do not need a weapon to acquire meat from a body.

Overview

Though not strictly necessary for playing the game, you are encouraged to read this section if you wish to have a better understanding of the game's universe.

Kasha are one of a number of youkai species. They resemble catpeople, possessing feline ears and tails, but with a key difference: kasha possess two tails instead of just one (though they still count as one limb for limb damage calculation). In youkai legends, two-tailed cats were said to be protective animal deities, and kasha are said to be descended from these deities.

The rest of a kasha's body is overall very similar to that of a feline halfling, with feline ears, slitted eyes, pointed fangs, and retractable claws in lieu of nails on both hands and feet. The claws of a kasha are notoriously long (about 2 inches long) and sharp, and are so useful for cutting through skin and flesh that kasha prefer them to using a knife or a blade. The feline ears and tails are almost always dark-colored, typically black or very dark brown. In contrast, their hair is always some type of fiery color, ranging from bright blonde to dark red, and everything in between. Kasha eyes are typically hazel, amber, or red.

Kasha lean on the shorter end of the scale among youkai species, with an average height of 5 feet 6 inches. Although individual heights and weights can vary greatly, the majority of kasha have lean and athletic bodies, and therefore tend to have low body weights; averaging at 90 pounds for males and 85 for females.

The most important trait of a kasha is their ability to enter a state of combat trance, which they refer to as "Savage Mode". In such a state, the kasha's physical abilities are elevated, granting them greater physical strength and resistance to pain, usually for short periods of time. Kasha can extend this state for prolonged periods of time, but it comes at a cost; this ability is very mentally taxing, inducing very high amounts of stress and exposing kasha to the risk of decompensation. A kasha must therefore learn to control the use of this ability and to only activate it in short bursts, only when necessary. Kasha can also perform a force bolt attack, similar to the technique used by magicians.

Kasha are traditionally placed in hunting and scavenging roles, but can also fulfill a more traditional warrior role as melee fighting specialists. When properly trained and with strategic use of force bolt to disarm opponents and Savage Mode to enhance their own capabilities, a kasha melee fighter has the potential of becoming a fearsome, shock-and-awe opponent that should never be underestimated.
