Mist ball

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (All ACs)
Spec-Aqua Ranged 1 9 N N/A
  • Inflicts no Pain or Limb Damage.
  • The purpose of this attack is to generate a mist cloud on the Side in which it lands. The attack does not need to be aimed at any particular creature, as the cloud will affect every creature on the same Side.

Mist cloud

Mist clouds are a monster equivalent to smoke clouds, such as those generated by smoke grenades. They have the following properties:

  • Engulfs an entire Side of the battlespace, affecting every creature inside.
  • Lasts for 2 turns, at the end of which the cloud dissipates, and the effects listed below cease.
  • All creatures inside the cloud suffer from a FT+2 malus. As a Spec-Aqua attack, it also causes Water-soaked. These hazards cannot be mitigated by the Immunity to gases effect, such as one given by a gas mask.
  • All creatures outside the cloud suffer from a IR+2 malus, if aiming at creatures inside the cloud.

Dice results:

  • A critical success will double the length of the mist cloud's life (4 turns instead of 2 turns).
  • A regular success will result in the normal effects of the mist cloud occurring.
  • A failure still results in a mist cloud occurring, but for only 1 turn instead of the normal amount.
  • A critical failure results in the mist ball disintegrating before it can create a mist cloud, thus failing entirely.

Poison darts

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (C1) Pain (C2) Pain (A1) Pain (A2) Pain (A3) Pain (A4) Pain (A5)
Piercing Ranged 2 9 -4 9% 8% 7% 6% 5% 2% 0%
  • On a successful hit, inflicts Venom +1.

Mamono (魔物) is a Youkai-go term which means "evil spirit". It is a category of creatures that have appeared in the Mazes alongside youkai, which possess a range of magical abilities and traits. Whereas youkai are sapient, civilized creatures that have integrated into society and communities, mamono are feral monsters residing in the Uncivilized Area, being one more category of dangerous creatures that can be found there.

Jami is a Youkai-go term which can be translated to "wicked spirit".

The jami is perhaps the ur-example of a mamono; the very name of the species being synonymous with this term. The specific creature referred to as a jami is the youngest of the forms that this creature can take. They evolve into their mature daijami form after 30 years, and into their elder oujami form after 60 years. Their total life expectancy is around 120 years, although it is rare for these creatures to die of old age.

Jami are large, vaguely lizard-shaped, quadrupedal creatures with a vaguely crocodile-shaped head complete with a maw full of teeth, four legs culminating in paws (with a notable absence of claws), and a tough skin protected with scales. They attain adulthood 3 years from birth, reaching an average length of 6 feet 5 inches, an average height of 2 feet 8 inches, and an average weight of 300 to 350 pounds.

The hide and scales of a regular jami are not yet hard enough to count as armored, making them most easily defeated using expanding ammunition. The two most striking features of a jami's body are its blue coloration, and its mane. The mane of a jami runs from the top of its head, along the spine and until the creature's butt, where it extends and forms a tail. What's most interesting, however, is that this mane is actually incorporeal, appearing to be made out of white flames. This mane can be (theoretically) touched without causing injuries - adventurers have reported that it gives strange, tingling sensations.

You will be very hard-pressed to find a jami that will peacefully let you touch its mane - they are hostile creatures and active predators, roaming the Uncivilized Area to attack anything that isn't one of their own species, considering all species other than their own to be valid prey. They possess various methods of mutilating opponents; they can perform a powerful bite attack, they can fire a frost beam from their mouths, and they can spit mist balls as well as poison darts.

Travelers and adventurers are advised to avoid engaging jami in combat if possible, as they can be far more trouble than they're worth. On death, the jami's body immediately enters a "self-sabotaging" process, during which their ethereal mane disappears like a flame going out, and the normally bright coloration of their bodies quickly fades and desaturates. Thirty seconds after death, the jami's body begins emanating a putrid scent. If you try to butcher the corpse, you will find nothing but rotten meat and organs, completely unsuitable for consumption. Biologists believe that this self-sabotaging process is intentional, designed to either deny a meal to potential predators, or to poison them if the smell does not stop them.
