Certain creatures in the Mazes are the result of past scientific experiments that have, for one reason or another, either gone wrong or been released into the Uncivilized Area, where they proceeded to "go native" and become one of the many species of creatures inhabiting the UA.
Blobs are considered to be living creatures, but only in the same sense that viruses, amoebae and other simple organisms are living creatures. In the strictest sense, blobs are ''[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protist protists]''; a category of living creatures that is considered to be neither an animal, plant, or fungus. Specifically, they appear to most closely resemble the category of ''slime molds''.
A singular blob is considered to be a single-celled organism, but exhibits unique and strange properties - namely, an extreme resilience to all but the most violent forms of damage, as well as an outer shell that is completely impervious to fire. They are composed of three parts: a nucleus acting as a central nervous system (the "core" or "brain"), a filling of brightly-colored, usually highly corrosive substance, and an outer layer called the "skin" that can stretch and deform. The underbelly of that skin can open and close microscopic pores at will, leaking a small amount of its own filling for the blob to slide on, conferring the blob the ability to move in any direction (if very slowly), much like a snail.
Because blobs have no definite shape and are essentially viscous masses of material, they will deform and wobble when struck. Sufficiently hard impacts will cause them to "chip" and lose a small bit of themselves. If the blob manages to slide over a chipped bit of itself in time, it will re-absorb that bit and retain its size. The only way to reliably destroy a blob is to either chip it enough times to eventually destroy its core and not allow it to reform, or entirely vaporize it at once, usually through the use of an explosive device.
'''Yellow''' blobs are the second type of blob that were discovered. They are rarer, and nastier. Their filling, as the name suggests, is full of a yellow substance that is just as corrosive as that of the [[green blob]]. More interestingly, they possess the ability to release "limpets", which are miniature patches of gel resembling a solid version of the yellow blob's filling. In reality, these limpets have a very thin layer of the blob's own skin, and are designed to burst instantly if anything other than a yellow blob touches it. Upon bursting, it releases a thick cloud of corrosive gas, with properties closely resembling that of chlorine gas.
The ability of these blobs to essentially create mines capable of releasing toxic gases makes them a significantly greater threat than their green counterparts. But if that wasn't enough reason to consider them threatening, even simply trying to get rid of these creatures is a dangerous endeavor; on death, when the core of a yellow blob is destroyed, it bursts as well and releases another cloud of chlorine gas in turn.
