The tanuki (Youkai-go: 狸, pronounced tah-noo-kee, lit. "Raccoon") is a creature belonging to the Youkai category. Youkai are both sapient and sedentary, making them one of the civilized species of the Mazes.

Attacks and techniques

This creature has two attacks: Punch and Kick.

In addition, they have access to a special resource, Tanuki Balls, which is used to perform Tanuki Shapeshifting techniques.

Overview

Tanuki are one of a number of youkai species. They resemble humanoids, but with the ears and tail of a raccoon. This tail is proportional to the size of their bodies, and when laid flat on the back, it is long enough to reach up to the back of the head. Tanuki are on the taller end of the spectrum, with an average height of 5 feet 10 inches. On average, tanuki have fuller, more heavyset bodies than other species, with an average weight of 210 pounds for males and 185 pounds for females, although this may vary greatly between individuals.

Tanuki have the peculiar reputation of being very sex-oriented, if not obsessed, and the reason for this reputation begins at the tanuki's body; for their size, tanuki males develop very large testicles (average volume ~400cc, or about the size of large oranges), and tanuki females develop very large breasts (average volume ~1000cc, most common cup size is F). What could have been dismissed as a simple quirk of their bodies has instead become an integral part of tanuki identity; their sizes are uncanny, they know it and they are not ashamed to show it off at any opportunity.

For tanuki, there is no shame in nudity, and sexual matters are a casual topic of conversation. They tend to consider clothing to be a bothersome and unfortunate requirement of society life; some would call them shameless and promiscuous, others simply free and liberated. It is therefore no surprise that tanuki are considered popular in red-light occupations, such as adult movies, strip club personnel, or in prostitution.

However, one would be unwise to dismiss this species as merely perverted and sex-obsessed. Tanuki can perform a powerful form of magic that is entirely unique to their species: partial shapeshifting. They can spend a special type of accumulated energy (which they refer to as Tanuki Balls) to temporarily reconfigure their body's shape, form, density and hardness, with many practical applications; increased strength and muscle mass, pain healing, pain sensitivity decreasing, hardening their skins and bodies to improve their Armor Class, and so on. In typical tanuki style, every of these shapeshifting abilities has a suggestive name (see Tanuki Shapeshifting for a list). These abilities make them surprisingly valuable on the battlefield, as this makes them very versatile; so long as they have the energy to spare to cast these abilities.

Outside of the battlefield and the red light district, tanuki are known for being adaptable and versatile, capable of working in nearly any kind of environment, even in fields where other species would be expected, such as engineering, sciences, medicine, academia, or even as mercenaries and adventurers of all kinds.
