Standard Law is the name of a standardized set of laws and rules created by the founders of the Maze Police. These rules are designed to standardize law enforcement across multiple towns and are meant to be enforced by local Town Security as well as the Maze Police itself.

A town following Standard Law is said to have Police protection, as they are allowed to call the Police for backup and processing of prisoners.

Qualifications and requirements

To be eligible for police protection, a town must meet the following requirements:

  • Not be affiliated with, or under the control of, a group or faction designated as a criminal organization.
  • Be willing to enforce all rules and laws outlined in Standard Law
  • Be willing to let the Maze Police handle the processing of arrested suspects
  • Be willing to enforce the laws on all sapient life; all sapients can be protected by the law, but all can be punished for breaking it as well.

If all conditions are met, a town's mayor may contact the Police to sign a Standard Law contract, which will grant that town's local Town Security the ability to call the Police for backup.

Law and regulations

All laws and rules are in one of four categories, ordered by importance. The higher the category, the harder the punishment for breaking a law in it.

From highest to lowest importance, the categories are as follows: Code Red, Code Orange, Code Yellow, and Code Blue.
