SRT stands for '''[[Special Response Team]]''', a special subdivision of the [[Maze Police]]. Although SRT officers are considered to be of equal rank to regular [[police officer|police officers]], they are well-trained operatives with much higher combat experience than a typical police officer.
SRT Officers are grouped in ''tactical teams'' of five. Each team is considered to be ''inactive'' until specifically requested by a [[Police Sergeant]].
When inactive, SRT Officers generally stay at their home station, either serving as combat instructors for their colleagues, doing training exercises, or training volunteers to become qualified for SRT duty.
When activated, the role of an SRT Officer is to handle high-risk situations, through the use of what the Police calls ''special weapons and tactics''; carefully-selected equipment and personnel with a keen tactical sense. SRT Officers are famous for their use of [[List of human clothing and armor|SRA armor]] (Special Response Armor), a set of full-body armor specially designed for use on SRT duty.
To become a member of the Special Response Team, an officer must have served the Police for at least 3 years, not yet have received a promotion to Sergeant, and must be willing to receive advanced training from an existing SRT team. The training period lasts 12 months and has a very high drop-out rate. At the end of these 12 months, approval from at least 4 out of 5 members of the SRT team is required for a candidate to join the Special Response Team.
Like regular [[Police officer|officers]], SRT officers can be offered a promotion to the rank of [[Police Sergeant|Sergeant]] during their career, and continue climbing through the Police's hierarchy. Service as part of the SRT is considered to be a mark of prestige, proof of skill and experience.
