SRT stands for '''[[Special Response Team]]''', a special subdivision of the [[Maze Police]]. Although SRT officers are considered to be of equal rank to regular [[police officer|police officers]], they are well-trained operatives with much higher combat experience than a typical police officer.
SRT Officers are grouped in ''tactical teams'' of five. Each team is considered to be ''inactive'' until specifically requested by a [[Police Sergeant]].
When activated, the role of an SRT Officer is to handle high-risk situations, through the use of what the Police calls ''special weapons and tactics''; carefully-selected equipment and personnel with a keen tactical sense. SRT Officers are famous for their use of [[List of human clothing and armor|SRA armor]] (Special Response Armor), a set of full-body armor specially designed for use on SRT duty.
To become a member of the Special Response Team, an officer must have served the Police for at least 3 years, not yet have received a promotion to Sergeant, and must be willing to receive advanced training from an existing SRT teamsquad. The training period lasts 12 months and has a very high drop-out rate. At the end of these 12 months, approval from at least 4 out of 5 members of the SRT team is required for a candidate to join the Special Response Team.
Like regular [[Police officer|officers]], SRT officers can be offered a promotion to the rank of [[Police Sergeant|Sergeant]] during their career, and continue climbing through the Police's hierarchy. Service as part of the SRT is considered to be a mark of prestige, proof of skill and experience.
