The term psionic is the colloquial name of an offshoot species to humanity with the scientific designation of Homo sapiens ex psychicus. The first individuals were sighted in the Mazes approximately 285 years ago. Like magicians, psionics are sapient, nearly indistinguishable from humans (to an extent, see below), and are genetically compatible with humans, halflings, and by extension, youkai as well. They are not considered a civilized race; most psionics live as solitary recluses in the UA, and few are fortunate enough to afford living alone in a civilized area to begin with. Like satori, they are frequently maligned and discriminated against for their psionic capabilities, with the enduring popular belief that they are mind-readers and manipulators, which is not actually true.

Psionics appear completely human in appearance, with the same range of average heights and weights, the ability to wear human clothing and armor, and can use weaponry and other equipment. Their mental faculties and psionic abilities are also relatively "invisible", in the sense that they do not produce flashy lights or effects (like a magician's spells). However, all psionics have white or silvery irises, with no pupils. This is a striking, easily recognizable feature which has motivated many psionic individuals to make attempts at hiding their eyes, usually through the use of dark glasses.

Two distinct types of psionics are recognized; the psionic fighter and the more skilled psionic warrior. Both variants can be of any age, the only distinction seems to be in how skilled they are at using their psionic abilities in combat.
