A Police Officer is a member of the Maze Police. All police personnel is assigned to one of several police stations, found in each of the towns under the Police's direct control. The station an officer is assigned to is called the home station or home base, and it is generally called by the name of the city it is found in (e.g. "the Citadel Lambeth station").

Within the Police hierarchy, officers are the lowest-ranked and the most common. They are considered to be of equal rank to SRT officers and under the rank of Sergeant.
All police officers are part of a police squad, composed of 8 officers and led by 1 sergeant.

Officers may be assigned to three broad types of duties: a patrol team, station work, or prison duty.

As part of a patrol team, officers are tasked to go on patrol (nicknamed the beat), which consists of traveling across the UA on a set path, designated by their team's Sergeant. While on patrol, the job of a police officer is, in a general sense, to uphold and enforce Standard Law in all towns where it applies. In a practical sense, this includes tasks such as looking out for raiders and other criminals while patrolling, responding to calls for backup, and apprehending anyone who is breaking the law.

Officers generally do not enter towns or intersections where Standard Law does not apply while on duty, and they are advised to stay entirely away from towns under the control of the Syndicate, even while off-duty, as it would endanger their lives.

When assigned to station work, officers generally stay at their home station and do paperwork (commonly called desk duty). Some may be assigned to call operator duty, acting as a relay between towns requesting backup and any available patrol teams. Other types of station work include information lobby/receptionist duty, cooking/kitchen duty, and armorer duty.

When on prison duty, a police officer will take on the duties of a prison guard, providing overwatch and keeping order inside their home station's correctional facility.
