A Police Detective is a senior member of the [[Maze Police]].
Within the Police hierarchy, detectives rank above [[Police Sergeant|Sergeants]] and under [[Police Chief]], effectively making Detectives the seniormost members of the Police with field duties.
Detectives operate semi-independently, either alone or in pairs. Their duty is to investigate criminal organizations and cases related to their activity. Detectives are famous for not wearing a recognizable uniform, having instead adopted a relatively [[citizen]]-like plainclothes look, in order to better blend into crowds and gatherings and to be able to enter areas normally off-limits to Police, such as [[Yatela Crime Syndicate|Syndicate]]-controlled towns. Should the need for additional support and firepower arise, Detectives are also able to request backup from [[Police Sergeant|police squads]] and [[SRT officer|tactical teams]].
Because of their position within the hierarchy, their plainclothes dress code and their duties and responsibilities, Detectives are often described as ''"hardboiled"'': hardcore, fearless individuals that cannot be broken or disposed of easily.
