Oni are one of a number of [[youkai]] species. They are large, muscle-bound humanoid creatures, resembling the largest and strongest of [[human]] bodybuilders, with two short yet large horns protruding from the head. They are the tallest and the largest youkai species, with an average height of 6 feet 3 inches and an average weight of 350 pounds. Their skin is very thick, and their flesh is known for being very stiff and resistant to blows, cuts , and punctures. It is so tough that it is considered bullet-resistant; many oni have personally described surviving gunfire and watching bullets flatten onto their bodies. Oni skin color varies greatly, between from regular humanoid skin tones ranging between tanned and olive, to brighter colors such as shades of red, blue, green, or more rarely, black.

Oni are famous for their size, strength, and resistance to pain; it is , therefore , no surprise that they are the primary "warrior" species among youkai, meant to draw fire, take a beating , and dish it back out. In a certain sense, they would be the "tanks" of the youkai world if such vehicles existed in the Mazes. Because of their great strength, many oni specialize as melee fighters, and are frequently depicted carrying the traditional oni weapon, the [[kanabou]].
