Said to have been requested by the all-seeing Goddess that brought youkai to the world (hmm, I wonder who that is!), a kappa swordsmith known only by his family name, Muramasa, forged it in her honor. The sword was said to have been owned by the first chief of Town Security in the first youkai town, Yurai. Its its purpose was to defend the city against all opponents and enemies, and that to fulfill this purpose, it had to be thirsty for the blood of these enemies, so that it may instill terror in those who wish to harm youkai, and cut to pieces those who try. The legends say that it is "the painless sword" (無痛の剣, mutsuu no ken); because it doesn't hurt as much as a traditional [[katana]] blade, but it cuts so deep, the enemy is in pieces before it can feel pain.
