Lieutenants are more rarely seen on the field than lower ranks, generally delegating most of the fieldwork to their squads; however, they are still quite capable of fighting and handling matters personally.
To be promoted to Lieutenant, a Sergeant must be recommended by their current Lieutenant, the recommendation must be approved by the Captain, and there must be an opening within the company. As such, newly-minted Lieutenant Lieutenants rarely get to lead the platoon they first joined in.
