The leprechaun (pronounced either leh-pruh-cone or leh-pruh-khan) is a creature belonging to the Humanoids category. It is one of the sapient species of the Mazes, but it is not considered to be a civilized species.

Attacks and techniques

This creature has three attacks: Punch, Kick and Steal.

Punch and kick

Identical to the basic unarmed combat punch and kick. Maximum attacks per turn is determined by the Martial arts combat skill level.

Steal

Damage type Range MAPT IS LDV Pain (All ACs)
Special Ranged 1 5 N N/A
  • Inflicts no Pain or Limb Damage.
  • The creature will attempt to steal either coins or valuables from the target's inventory.
    • If there are no compatible items in the target's inventory, the technique fails automatically.
    • Otherwise, both the attacking creature and the target creature must roll 2d6+Agi to determine whether the stealing attempt succeeds.
      • If the attacker's roll is equal or superior to the target's, Steal is successful.
      • On a success, the creature will steal either (GM's choice): Up to 100 coins of one random type, or one random valuable, instantly transferring the stolen items to the attacking creature's own inventory.

Overview

This article or section contains lore-related information.
Though not strictly necessary for playing the game, you are encouraged to read this section if you wish to have a better understanding of the game's universe.

Leprechauns are short, humanoid creatures resembling miniature humans. They typically have fair to very fair complexion, their hair color ranges from dark brown to red, and their eye color is almost always green (with very rare blue-eyed cases). On average, they are 3 feet tall and weigh 30 to 40 pounds. Most individuals grow facial hair, including, interestingly enough, females. Despite similar appearances to humans, they are not genetically compatible with them, or any other species except their own.

Leprechauns are sapient creatures, capable of understanding and speaking the languages of the Mazes fluently. Most speak Common, but some individuals, particularly those living near Youkai communities, have gained fluency in Youkai as well. They are jolly and mischievous creatures, prone to breaking into songs and speaking in rhymes, and are fond of partying, smoking, drinking, and perhaps most famously, stealing coins and other valuables from other sapient beings. They do not consider stealing to be morally wrong, rather they treat it as a game, simply believing that anything that is within their reach is fair game, and that failure to defend your property simply means you were meant to lose it. It's not clear what they use the accumulated loot for; although some do use it to purchase the occasional necessities, it seems they derive most of their enjoyment purely from the acts of stealing and hoarding.

As theft is usually punished in one way or another, this makes leprechauns generally undesirable in the Civilized Areas. Most simply treat them as pests, no differently from other, less intelligent creatures, and they are usually shot or attacked on sight. Most people will encounter them in the UA, where they have taken residence. Though usually solitary, there exist makeshift villages in certain corners of the UA where small groups of leprechauns sometimes gather. These villages serve as rallying points, providing shelter, food and drink, companionship, and mating partners. Though they are able to carry and use weapons, the majority of them choose not to, viewing combat training as an unnecessary hassle. Leprechaun wisdom states that it is wiser to play to your strengths, than to fight enemies "fairly" or "on their terms", especially when most of them are taller, stronger and more skilled than you are.

Children are easily distinguished from adults by their lack of facial hair. Leprechauns grow quickly, reaching adulthood (and growing their first beard) at about 10 years of age. They have the potential to be remarkably long-lived creatures, with an average life expectancy of around 160 years old. However, few manage to live this long, as they are frequently hunted down and killed by their targets, in retaliation for stealing from them. Some individuals have been seen living and cohabiting peacefully under the laws and customs of the Civilized Areas, having learned to keep their singing and thieving under control. These individuals are sometimes referred to as reformed leprechauns, and are typically older and considered to be wiser than the average leprechaun.
