"This rifle is a successor of the SMLE, but chambered in a more modern caliber. Often thought of as a conversion of the SMLE, the 2A1 is not actually a conversion; these rifles were designed and built from the ground up with 7.62mm NATO in mind. Just like its predecessor, the 2A1 is a bolt-action rifle with a relatively high capacity (a whopping 12 rounds), capable of accepting stripper clips and a long-bladed bayonet, imaginatively called the Long Blade bayonet."
