Mamono (魔物) is a Youkai-go term which means "evil spirit". It is a category of creatures that have appeared in the Mazes alongside youkai, which possess a range of magical abilities and traits. Whereas youkai are sapient, civilized creatures that have integrated into society and communities, mamono are feral monsters residing in the Uncivilized Area, being one more category of dangerous creatures that can be found there.

Hasamidachi is a Youkai-go term which can be translated to "scissor cutter" or "scissor judge".

The hasamidachi is a short humanoid creature, roughly 4 feet 6 inches and weighing about 80 pounds on average. They possess three-toed hands and feet, each armed with sharp claws. The structure of their head is elongated, almost like a bird, even possessing a sort of skin-covered beak. In it are sharp, jagged teeth. On the hasamidachi's head are a pair of pointed ears and a short mane of usually brightly colored hair (typically green, sometimes blue, red, or purple). Though both males and females exist, there are no known differences in behavior between the sexes, and neither possess physical traits that can be used to distinguish them.

By far, the most important and defining feature of this creature is the pair of scissor blades attached to the forehead. A special protrusion on its forehead allows it to attack with a special pair of scissors blades, complete with handles. It appears that this creature is capable of actuating the scissors while attached to its head without the use of its hands. The hasamidachi can also detach the scissors from its forehead and throw them at opponents, where this weapon reveals its other trait: it is capable of returning to its owner after being thrown regardless of whether the intended target was hit.

The origin of the hasamidachi's scissor weapon is unclear. They appear to be fashioned largely out of discarded knife blades fitted with scrap metal or plastic handles, before being fitted to their forehead protrusions. It is presumed that the blades are enchanted in one form or another while under the hasamidachi's ownership, however the specific process or ritual involved is currently unknown. What is known, however, is that these returning blades can be harvested from their bodies and used as weapons by others, complete with their returning effect. Curiously, only one half of the scissor weapon (thus creating a single, knife-like blade rather than a complete pair of scissors) retains the throwing property. The other half is discarded as scrap.

Unsurprisingly, these creatures are hostile, frequently using their scissors as a weapon to deter intruders and enemies and using their claws and teeth as secondary weapons. Fortunately they are not armored or particularly difficult to eliminate and should only be considered a serious threat when found in groups. Make sure you can quickly return fire and dispatch these creatures if they provoke you into a fight.
