{{Lore}}
Hakutaku are one of the a number of [[youkai]] species. Their appearance is humanoid, but with several bovine traits; the most visible of which are a pair of horns protruding from the head, and a bovine tail. Although average body hair is equivalent to that of a human, hakutaku skin develops dark blotches arranged in patterns resembling cow skin. These patterns can develop anywhere on a hakutaku's body, including their faces, and give them a two-toned, cow-like appearance. The light part is called the "main coat" and ranges between light-colored skin to tanned, whereas the dark blotches, called the "spots", are usually dark brown to black. Very rarely, the spots can take on a reddish hue; they are then called "blood spots".
Although not immediately obvious to the eye, hakutaku skin is notoriously thicker and more firm than that of an average human. It offers natural protection of such quality that it is considered to be offer (very mild) bullet-resistantresistance. Gunfights involving hakutaku have revealed that soft and expanding ammunition has a tendency to expand and deform too early when striking their bodies, resulting in lessened efficiencyreduced effectiveness. On the other hand, armor-piercing ammunition is better suited to defeat this protective skin.
A hakutaku's average height is similar to that of a [[human]], at around 5 feet 7 inches without counting the horns. Fully grown hakutaku horns are obtained during teenage years, and usually reach between 2 and 5 inches long. Their constitution leans towards full and heavyset, and average weights orbit weight orbits around 200 pounds for males and 160 pounds for females.
Hakutaku are a "support" species, with a natural affinity for nature, particularly plant and fungal matter. They are able to recognize and differentiate any plant, tree, grain or fungus species simply by looking at it. This ability makes them naturally suited for farming and herbalist roles. Because they can recognize mushrooms as well, this means they can easily distinguish the poisonous species from the safe ones. The discovery of magic mushrooms was attributed to hakutaku as well, and their ability to recognize the medically useful species has allowed them to fill a unique role as "alternative" medicine specialists, called upon to heal various ailments through the use of these magic mushrooms.
Certain hakutaku have devoted their lives to academic studies, particularly in the field of medicine, and have chosen to combine their traditional affinity for nature and herbalism with that of modern medicine. There have been many successful hakutaku medics and med shop owners, and their advice and experience is well sought-after, their combined knowledge being often considered 'complete'.
