Lore
Guhin are one of the a number of youkai species. At first glance, they are humanoid creatures with canine traits, resembling canine halflings. However, their physical appearance differs in several ways. All guhin possess wolf-like ears and tail, either white, gray or black. They also possess two pairs of canine fangs (sometimes three - upper fangs are doubled in approximately 10% of individuals), and retractable claws in lieu of nails on both hands and feet. Guhin tend to have pale skin tones, ranging from completely albino to simply very light. All of them possess red eyes as well, although the exact shade of red may vary between individuals.
Most importantly, guhin have significantly greater amounts of body hair than even canine halflings do; their body posses possesses a light coat of short fur, the color of which matches that of their ears and tail. This fur coat covers their back, their arms, their legs, and back neck, leaving their faces, front neck, abdomen, hands and feet exposed with skin.
On average, guhin are on the taller end of the spectrum, averaging at 6 feet tall for both males and females. Although this varies greatly between individuals, guhin tend to have lean, toned bodies with well-defined muscles, very similarly to tengu. Their great agility, high resistance to pain, and natural affinity for martial arts makes them one of the "warrior" species of youkai.
Guhin and tengu are often described as sister species, despite having very different physical appearances. Guhin are sometimes described as wolf tengu (to differentiate them from the crow tengu), because both of them have a natural affinity for martial arts and melee combat, and both have similar average heights, weights and constitutions. Guhin and tengu are natural partners said to complete each other (one fights on the ground, the other in the air), with a long history of guhin/tengu associationscooperation, as friends, couples, or simply battle partners.
