= Overview =
{{Lore}}

An enormous insect, with the appearance of a tick.

The giant tick is one of several species of giant insects native to the Mazes. It appears to be an enormous version of the ''[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ixodes_scapularis ixodes scapularis]'', a type of hard tick, so called because their bodies are armored with a scale-like shield. These giant ants are approximately 2 feet tall. Their length and weight varies depending on whether they are fully engorged with blood (see below for details), but at rest and empty, their default adult length is approximately 4 feet, and they weigh roughly 30 lbs.

Giant ticks are known for their ''vampire bite'' ability, inherited from their regular counterparts. At their size, they are capable of performing blood-sucking bites on nearly any applicable creature in the Mazes, including people. These bites leave remarkably small wounds - small enough, in fact, that sustained bleeding is extremely rare, being closer to a syringe in effect than anything else. Giant ticks sustain themselves by sucking the blood out of other creatures into a sac, engorging themselves until they are full. A fully engorged giant tick grows to six feet in length, and can carry up to 8 gallons of blood (a little over 30 000 cubic centimeters), or the equivalent of 5 average humans' total worth of blood with a bit of room to spare.

When they are full, or they can no longer find any targets to attack, giant ticks hide somewhere safe and secluded, then proceed to break the blood down to extract the nutrients and lipids contained within, until they disengorge themselves completely. They then repeat the process of hunting targets and feeding on their blood, for the rest of their lives.

Their tough shell makes them somewhat resistant to impacts and damage, though they can still be quickly disposed of with the judicious application of any firearm or other weapon of your choice into their bodies. The actual blood color of a giant tick is yellowish to off-white, like a [[giant ant]]'s. However, when shot or wounded, their sac can leak the blood they absorbed from other creatures. Don't confuse the leaks for their actual blood and keep attacking until they're no longer moving - or in one piece.

Like all members of the '''Bugs''' category, the origin of these creatures is unknown. Because they lack any magical or supernatural elements, it has been theorized that these creatures are the result of some type of past scientific experiment gone wrong, and that they have since escaped into the UA and become a species native to the Uncivilized Area.
