  • Inflicts no Pain or Limb Damage.
  • The purpose of this attack is to generate a mist cloud on the Side in which it lands. The attack does not need to be aimed at any particular creature, as the cloud will affect every creature on the same Side.

Mist cloud

Mist clouds are a monster equivalent to smoke clouds, such as those generated by smoke grenades. They have the following properties:

  • Engulfs an entire Side of the battlespace, affecting every creature inside.
  • Lasts for 2 turns, at the end of which the cloud dissipates, and the effects listed below cease.
  • All creatures inside the cloud suffer from a FT+2 malus. This hazard cannot be mitigated by the Immunity to gases effect, such as one given by a gas mask; as the purpose of mist is obfuscation, not damage.
  • All creatures outside the cloud suffer from a IR+2 malus, if aiming at creatures inside the cloud.

Dice results:

  • A critical success will double the length of the mist cloud's life (4 turns instead of 2 turns).
  • A regular success will result in the normal effects of the mist cloud occurring.
  • A failure still results in a mist cloud occurring, but for only 1 turn instead of the normal amount.
  • A critical failure results in the mist ball disintegrating before it can create a mist cloud, thus failing entirely.

A legendary, monstrous canine creature, known for its silver fur, elemental abilities, and thirst for blood.

When standing on all four legs, the gavodborz can already be considered a massive creature, with an average height of 5 foot 6 inches and a weight of 240 lbs. However, the borz, as it is sometimes shortened, has the uncanny ability to stand on its hind legs and walk (though only for short distances). It is thought that this ability is for intimidation, as standing up causes it to rise to nearly seven feet in height, and it frequently growls, howls, and beats its chest with its claws while doing so, akin to an enraged gorilla. All gavodborzes have gray or silvery fur. Eye color is either reddish-brown or black.

It is a notoriously intimidating and murderous beast, seemingly enjoying to make a show out of tearing apart its opponents, eating their remains, or splattering blood over their faces or their bodies. This suggests that the gavodborz has enough intelligence to be knowingly scary to other creatures, and that it is making efforts to be as intimidating as it is dangerous. Unsurprisingly, the gavodborz is a carnivorous creature, its diet being composed nearly entirely of meat supplemented with bone, which it is capable of crushing to a fine dust, then swallow and digest.

The gavodborz is not all intimidation however; it is a legendary beast, seemingly built for combat. It is capable of delivering severe damage with its claws and teeth, it can fire frostblast beams much like a kallwolf, and it can also spit large balls of magic energy known as mist balls; projectiles about the size of an orange, which explode into clouds of obfuscating mist. These mist clouds are used to disorient opponents, or to conceal the borz's attempts to escape, should it take too much damage and need to retreat.

As should be expected for a Threat level 5 creature, even well-prepared adventurers may find themselves having trouble defeating a gavodborz, as their entire body is reinforced by a type of natural, subdermal scale armor, covering the near-entirety of the beast's body, giving the gavodborz a bulky, chiseled appearance. This armor is bullet-resistant and comparable in protection level to medium body armor. As such, if you plan to fight a gavodborz, bring sufficiently powerful and/or armor-piercing ammunition, or other types of weapons that can reliably deal with such threats.

This creature has existed since the beginning of the medieval eras, being referenced in numerous books. However, the etymology behind this creature's name does not appear to have any roots in the Old Tongue; there are no corresponding words or word roots that would make sense, and it seems the creature has been referred to as gavodborz since it first appeared. It is therefore unknown what gavodborz could be transliterated to, if anything.
