Colloquially, an equine halfling may be referred to as a ''horseperson'' (the terms ''horseboy'' and ''horsegirl'' are also frequently employed). On average, they are taller and stockier than humans, with an average height of 6 feet, and an average weight of 170 pounds for males, and 140 pounds for females. Like humans, however, the actual height and weight may vary greatly between individuals. Another colloquial term for equine halflings is ''pony-person'' (''ponyboy/ponygirl''); some consider it interchangeable with the ''horse-'' prefixed words, others believe that there is a true distinction that is based on an individual's fully grown height. According to the latter, an equine halfling is a ''horse'' when 6 feet tall or higher, and a ''pony'' when shorter than 6 feet, although this is not an universally agreed-upon rule.

The term halfling is the colloquial name of an offshoot species of humanity, with the scientific designation of Homo sapiens ex animalis. Halflings first appeared in the Mazes approximately 413 years ago, roughly at the same time as magicians did.

Halflings resemble humans at first glance, but possess several animalistic traits differentiating them from humans, appearing to be a cross between human and animal. They are completely sapient and civilized, and have integrated into settlements and society at large since their discovery. There exists 7 different halfling sub-species, each one possessing traits and elements from a different animal. All halflings are biologically compatible with each other, humans, and by extension, with youkai, and all have retained the human's omnivore diet.

Equine halflings possess, as the name suggests, equine features on an otherwise human-like body, and are genetically related to horses and ponies. Specifically, they possess equine ears (lacking human ears), an equine tail (which does not count as a body part that can be targeted), as well as eyes with large irises. Contrary to popular belief, they have hands and feet, and no hooves. They also possess a greater amount of body hair than a human, appearing as patches of fur, though none has ever been observed with a full coat covering the entire body.

Colloquially, an equine halfling may be referred to as a horseperson (the terms horseboy and horsegirl are also frequently employed). On average, they are taller and stockier than humans, with an average height of 6 feet, and an average weight of 170 pounds for males, and 140 pounds for females. Like humans, however, the actual height and weight may vary greatly between individuals. Another colloquial term for equine halflings is pony-person (ponyboy/ponygirl); some consider it interchangeable with the horse- prefixed words, others believe that there is a true distinction that is based on an individual's fully grown height. According to the latter, an equine halfling is a horse when 6 feet tall or higher, and a pony when shorter than 6 feet, although this is not an universally agreed-upon rule.

Although omnivorous, equine halflings tend to have a preference for vegetarian diets, particularly grain and vegetables. Horsepeople have a lower average blood quantity and are therefore slightly more vulnerable to intoxicants, but they make up for it with greater body mass. Although it doesn't grant them higher strength than humans, they do possess bodies slightly more resistant to damage. In an effort to play to these strengths, many equine halflings found successful careers as bodyguards, mercenaries, and other security roles, although they have been found to be fairly versatile and successful in all sorts of careers. The term "workhorse" refers to the stereotype that horsepersons are all work and no play, and to call one a "one-trick pony" is seen as a particularly vicious insult.
