/* Overview */
The term mercenary refers to anyone who can be hired to fight on behalf of their employer. As a broad profession, mercenaries come in all forms, ranging from freelancers who do it part-time to true professionals whose fees reach nearly into five-figure territory. As a rule, most mercenaries prefer to fight with SMGs, and wear light body armor so their movement is not restricted. They are not soldiers as they are not aligned with any faction or loyal to any boss, nor are they raiders as they are not normally criminals or working for their own cause. Mercenaries can often be seen working for the upper classes or on behalf of towns and other small organizations.
Some mercenaries work for the Mercenary Agency In the Mazes, a more professional organization that generally employs more skilled mercenaries. Members of MAIM can be distinguished from other mercenaries by their ID badges, which include an ID number between 00 01 and 99. These mercenaries generally have more expensive contracts, and are all professional soldiers of fortune who do it full-time.
As a rule, mercenaries are as friendly as anyone else, and won't initiate hostilities unless they've been contracted to kill someone.
