Crocodiles are large reptilian creatures that can survive both on land and in the water. Although they start life as very small creatures, no larger than 12 inches and 3 ounces, they are capable of reaching enormous sizes; males range from 12 to 20 feet long and 500 to 2000 pounds, while females are 8 to 10 feet long and weigh between 160 and 230 pounds.

Crocodiles, or "crocs" as they're sometimes called, combine many traits desirable in the Mazes: large and powerful bodies that can endure a beating, surprisingly quick on their feet, which translates into high agility, an intimidating appearance, and powerful biting and striking attacks. Their bodies are covered in tough, thick scales with mild bullet-resistant properties, making them tough enough to recommend the use of armor-piercing ammunition against them.

On top of all of that, they are aggressive and territorial creatures that often band together in groups of as many as 3 to 4 individuals, attacking anything they perceive as a threat. They are even capable of giving chase to fleeing sapients, either for hunting or simply for intimidation. Although crocodiles can be spotted anywhere in the UA, they prefer wet areas with bodies of water, and as such, they are stereotyped as sewer-dwelling creatures. Many urban legends about crocodiles have been made up, such as those claiming they can crawl up pipes and appear out of toilet seats to bite unsuspecting people. Another enduring legend is about a baby crocodile that had lost its mother, then found and "adopted" an unknown sapient adventurer, showing its affection by attempting to bite that adventurer's buttocks repeatedly, and that no matter what the adventurer did to try and shake off the baby crocodile, it would always reappear, even in the middle of civilization.

Perhaps unexpectedly, crocodiles are actually sought after by hunters. Their meat is considered to be a delicacy, praised for its taste (being described as a cross between chicken and fish) and its high protein low fat content. Of course, their skin is also highly prized, as it is tanned into distinctive leather and used to make clothing and accessories with a naturally scaly texture and appearance. Clothes and items made out of crocodile leather are considered to be luxury items, and are only produced by a handful of artisans.

If you encounter one crocodile (or multiple!), keep your cool and your distance, and try to avoid provoking them into a fight. If you are confident enough you can take on crocodiles, the use of armor-piercing weapons is highly recommended, doubly so if chambered in a powerful caliber. Hunting crocodiles for meat can be a quite lucrative, if dangerous activity, and many adventurers have found success in clearing sewer sections and other deep sectors of the UA of these animals in order to harvest their meat and skins.
