It is also the first of the 'black rifles' to be standard issued with a 30-round magazine, and all of the rifles that succeeded followed suit. Though it doesn't have the distinctive triangular handguards, instead replaced with the round, ribbed ones, the M16A2 is still a classic rifle in its own right, and a perfectly suitable choice for all purposes, whether defensive or offensive.
