9x19mm Parabellum is a type of ammunition for firearms. It is classified as a <span style="color:#0000AA">(P)</span>istol caliber. It was originally designed for the Luger pistol, but went on to become the most widely used centerfire handgun cartridge, in both the real world and the Mazes. It is suitable for use in a wide range of firearms, from the most diminutive of pocket handguns to large submachine guns, and everything in between.
9x19mm is pronounced nine by nineteen millimeters. The name Parabellum comes from the Latin phrase Si vis pacem, para bellum (If you wish for peace, prepare for war).
This caliber may also be known as 9x19mm Para (a shortened form of Parabellum), 9x19mm Luger (after the Luger pistol), 9x19mm NATO, 9x19mm, or simply 9mm. Although this last designation is not recommended due to the existence of other 9mm calibers, "9mm" is generally understood to mean 9x19mm Parabellum in the majority of contexts.
